The alchemy of his life's work is rendered worthless. His own son tells him to tear out the old trees, to stop holding on to a dream the world doesn't value.

Sunlight dapples through the canopy of a generational cacao grove. This is a living library of heirloom trees.
ALEJANDRO (60s), a man whose hands are mapped with the story of the soil, gently cuts a ripe, yellow Criollo pod from a tree. With the practiced ease of a master, he cracks it open. Inside, nestled in white pulp, are precious, purple-hued cacao beans.
ALEJANDRO

The price he offers is insulting. The alchemy of his life's work is rendered worthless by a system blind to nuance.

Alejandro sits with his son, LUIS (30s), who is visiting from the city. The tension is palpable.
LUIS
(in Spanish)
Papá, tienes que ser práctico. Arranca los árboles viejos. Planta el híbrido. Paga las deudas. No podemos seguir aferrándonos a un sueño que el mundo no valora.
